Kintetsu Nara Line

Osaka-Namba → Kintetsu-Nara

Japan Rail Pass: no A private company, so the pass never applies.

Who runs it: Kintetsu The largest private network in the country, between Osaka, Kyoto, Nara and Nagoya. Its Nara station is more central than the JR one, but the pass is no use on it. Source

Kintetsu-Nara station is more central than the JR one for the main sights. A limited express also runs, 34 minutes for about $8 (¥1,200). Fare source

Why two lines, “who runs it” and “which train”?

The company decides whether the Japan Rail Pass applies: JR yes, private no, whatever the train.
The train decides how long it takes. It changes nothing about the pass, with one exception: the Nozomi and the Mizuho, the only two JR trains the pass leaves out.
