Where to stay in Nagoya
People rarely sleep in Nagoya for Nagoya. It is the stop before Takayama or Shirakawa-go, the arrival night when you land at Centrair, or the base for a day at the Ghibli park in Nagakute.

Around the station to leave early by shinkansen or catch the Takayama train. Sakae to eat and go out. Kanayama if you want cheaper, with the same connections.
The districts, and what they change
Three subway stops, three fairly different uses.
| District | Who it suits | What to expect | Getting there |
|---|---|---|---|
| Around the station | Shinkansen, leaving for the Alps | The widest choice of hotels in the city, and the trains for Takayama. Little interest in the evening. | mu-SKY train from Centrair, about 30 min |
| Sakae | Dinner and going out | The shopping center, the bars, the evening life. Two subway stops from the station. | Subway, Higashiyama line |
| Kanayama | Budget, connections | A less well-known rail junction, with cheaper hotels for the same comfort. | Subway or JR, a few minutes |
Journey times are the operators' own, with no connection or waiting time, so check the day's timetable before you set off: night trains and airport buses run to a different grid.
Business hotel or capsule in Nagoya
A business city: the hotel stock is aimed first at people who work.

No single site shows all of Japan. We explain who gives access to what, and which one fits your case.
Which site to choose for your case →The city works as a stop before Takayama or Shirakawa-go, or as the arrival night when you land at Centrair. For that, a hotel stuck to the station beats a nicer address three stops away.
When ryokan and train bookings open
Nagoya stays bookable late, except during the July sumo tournament and the big trade fairs.

Last checked August 6, 2026. No guarantees: a single property can open a little earlier or later.
How the opening calendar works, and why an empty calendar is not a full one: inns here open their rooms about 6 months ahead, train seats go on sale exactly 1 month ahead, and nothing at all exists before those two dates. Search earlier and the page comes back blank.
The one booking to make well before you arrive: Ghibli Park sells on the 10th, two months out .
Takayama, two and a half hours by train
This is what you sleep in Nagoya for. The supply there is tiny, and the festival dates empty it.
Takayama ryokan →Bookings for your dates open on a fixed date. We write that day.
Say you're after the cherry blossoms in April 2027: ryokan inns open around October. On the day, you get an email, you book, and it's done.
Tanuki Trip never books and never takes payment on your behalf, and the links to booking platforms on
this page are plain search links rather than partner links, so nothing here changes what you end up
paying or what we write about it.
You book it yourself, wherever you want.
