Tokyo to Hakone: price, time and JR Pass

The short answer

Budget ¥2,420 (about $15) per person and about 1 h 15 to 1 h 30. It is both the cheapest option and the fastest. The Japan Rail Pass covers none of the options on this trip.

The pass for the lake loop: funicular, ropeway, boat and local buses included, plus the return trip from Shinjuku. It works out cheaper than single tickets very quickly. The Romancecar supplement is still extra if you want the fast train. Fare source
