Where to stay in Fukuoka
Fukuoka is the large Japanese city where you spend least time getting to your hotel: the airport is two subway stops from Hakata station.

Hakata if you arrive by plane or shinkansen and leave again quickly. Tenjin if you want to eat, have a drink and walk home. The two are five minutes apart by subway, so the choice is about atmosphere, not journeys.

Three districts share almost everything, and they touch.

Outside the cityFukuoka has almost none. The ryokan of Kyushu are elsewhere, around Yufuin and Beppu, a few hours away by train or coach.
